Privacy and POPIA notice

Shape St Francis (ShapeSFB) is an independent, non-government platform. This notice explains how we handle your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). By submitting a comment or subscribing you agree to the use of your information as set out here.

What we collect

When you comment: your name, email address, town and province, whether you comment as an individual, business or organisation, your position, and the words of your comment.
When you register as an Interested and Affected Party: your name, email, and optionally a phone number, address and area of interest.
When you subscribe to alerts: your email, and optionally your name, area and cell number.
Basic technical information (such as a one-way hash of your IP address) to prevent abuse.

Why we use it, and who sees it

Public participation is not anonymous. When you confirm a comment, your comment and contact details are delivered as an individual submission to the environmental assessment practitioner or authority handling that application, because the formal process requires a named submission. That authority processes your information under the rules applying to the application.

We use registration and subscription details only to keep you informed about the relevant application or new applications. We do not publish your personal details on the site, and we do not sell your information or share it for unrelated marketing.

Your choices and rights

You can withdraw a submission using the link in your confirmation email.
You can unsubscribe from alerts using the link in any alert email.
You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are able to.

Note: once a submission has been delivered to an authority, that authority holds its own copy under its own rules, which ShapeSFB cannot remove on your behalf.
